Bach: The Cello Suites

Bach’s Suites for Solo Cello are product of his tenure in the court of Prince Leopold of Cӧthen, a time when Bach could focus on instrumental compositions since the Calvinist prince didn’t need much music for religious services.
These suites have become required learning for any cellist wishing to master their instrument, and there are numerous recordings of them in existence.
This week we’ll listen to the album made by Russian-born cellist, Nina Kotova, in 2014. She plays the 1673 Stradivarius once belonging to the legendary Jacqueline DuPré and recently owned by Lynn Harrell.
