Waytes: English Music for a Renaissance Band
Program: Biscuits & Bach
Aired: Sunday, August 19, 2018 @ 7:00 am
Hosted by Rachel Stewart
Their name tells you exactly what kind of music Piffaro, the Renaissance Band plays. The ensemble has been exploring the many genres and subgenres of early music for more than 30 years, and this week they take us (musically) to the British Isles. Consisting of 7 multi-instumentalists, they're configured much like the "waits" bands of Renaissance England that proliferated in towns and courts. Piffaro's 2009 album, Waytes: English Music for a Renaissance Band, celebrates the repertoire of these civic ensembles that offered music for every occasion. We listen to selections this week.
