The saxophone was invented many years after Bach and Handel walked the earth. As instruments go, it’s a newbie. In spite of such a “generation gap”, the saxophone lends itself surprisingly well to compositions from hundreds of years ago. Proof can be found in the new album from the Washington Saxophone Quartet entitled Looking Bach: Baroque and Before. We’ll sample several tracks this week which demonstrate the saxophone’s surprising versatility and ability to freshly interpret works by the old masters.
And Rachel chats with Hope Muir, Artistic Director of Charlotte Ballet, about their Innovative Works production. Hope will also share her method for getting eggs benedict and hollandaise sauce right every time.
