The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra

Program: Biscuits & Bach
Aired: Sunday, September 15, 2019 @ 7:00 am
Hosted by Rachel Stewart

Over its long recording career, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) has only occasionally recorded Bach's music. But the few recordings they've made deserve to be heard. This week we'll start with their latest on the BIS label, an album that contains three 20th century violin concertos PLUS Bach's A minor concerto. The LACO's longtime concertmaster, Margaret Batjer, is the soloist. We'll also check out recordings from the 1980s when LACO teamed up with guitarist Christopher Parkening and trumpeter/conductor Gerard Schwarz to record Brandenburgs, cantatas, and more.

Purchase featured CDs:
Jalbert, Bach, Part & Vasks: Music for Violin & Orchestra

Parkening: A Bach Celebration

Schwarz: Brandenburg Concertos 1-4; Concertos 5 & 6
