Happy Birthday Handel
Program: Biscuits & Bach
Aired: Sunday, February 23, 2020 @ 7:00 am
Hosted by Rachel Stewart
February 23rd marks the 335th birth anniversary of George Frideric Handel. Handel was only one month older than J.S. Bach, and they were born about 80 miles apart. Yet the two giants of Baroque music had very different lives and careers. While Bach never strayed far from his native region in Germany and held church jobs, Handel emigrated to London and worked for royalty. Both have left a permanent mark on music. This week we'll celebrate Handel's birth with several of his compositions.
Also on this week's program is Peter Reinhart who is "Chef-on-Assignment" and baking instructor at Johnson and Wales University in Charlotte. Reinhart is a bread expert and a James Beard Award winner. His latest cookbook is "Perfect Pan Pizza: Square Pies to Make at Home from Roman, Sicilian, and Detroit to Grandma Pies and Focaccia". We'll chat with him about the universal appeal of pizza and some of the new pizza styles that are getting attention these days.
