Tributes to Anner Bylsma & Leon Fleisher
Program: Biscuits & Bach
Aired: Sunday, August 9, 2020 @ 7:00 am
Hosted by Rachel Stewart
This week we remember two great musicians: Dutch cellist Anner Bylsma who died July 25, 2019 at age 85, and American pianist Leon Fleisher who passed away last Sunday, August 2, at 92. We'll hear a number of Bylsma recordings throughout the morning.
And we'll revisit a conversation with Fleisher from 2018 where he talks about the greatness of Bach's Chaconne for solo violin. Fleisher often performed Brahms' transcription of it for the left hand after he could no longer play the two-handed repertoire due to an injury to his right hand.
