Praetorius: Magnificat
Program: Biscuits & Bach
Aired: Sunday, November 1, 2020 @ 7:00 am
Hosted by Rachel Stewart
German composer Michael Praetorius was born a century before Bach and left an important musical legacy for Baroque composers who followed in his wake. He was a prolific composer and wrote extensively about music and musical practices of his day. A devoted Christian, he also wrote many sacred works, particularly for the Lutheran Church. This week we'll hear some of those compositions found on the 1992 album "Praetorius: Magnificat".
And Rachel will talk with author Robert Moss about the importance of barbecue as an American institution that has been shaped by Native Americans, African-Americans, and Europeans. His book "Barbecue: The History of an American Institution" has just been re-released in a revised second edition.
