Bach Remix
Program: Biscuits & Bach
Aired: Sunday, December 20, 2020 @ 7:00 pm
Hosted by Rachel Stewart
Bach was never squeamish about rearranging his own material and often reused it in innovative ways. No doubt he would have found interesting the original interpretations of his flute and keyboard sonatas by baroque flutist Emi Ferguson and her ensemble Ruckus. On their 2019 album, Fly the Coop, they take Bach out of the museum and add whimsy and fun to his music. Listen for the way they flesh out his bass lines when we play some tracks this week.
And Rachel chats with Christopher James Lees, Resident Conductor of the Charlotte Symphony about the CSO's special, virtual Baroque New Year's concert. He explains why Baroque music may just be the right way to provide an optimistic welcome to 2021. And he talks about the quarantine breakfast routine he shares with his five-year-old.
