Station Activity Survey Narrative
Each year, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting requests that we provide a narrative including special, innovative efforts in which we are involved by asking us five important questions about our public radio station.
Diversity Policy
WDAV is committed to ensuring that its workforce and governing boards reflect the diversity found in the community it serves. Central to WDAV’s mission, vision and values is maintaining a Community Advisory Board and workplace environment which recognizes and celebrates the power of diversity. Anti-Racism and Anti-Discrimination Statement
At WDAV Classical Public Radio we acknowledge that racism and discrimination are part of the history of classical music, and we apologize for the role we have played in perpetuating it because of the way the arts and public media have been administered predominately in white, male, and European-centered contexts.
We believe that the arts and public media are obligated to challenge structures of inequality. As such, we at WDAV commit to actively doing the necessary work to dismantle the systems that uphold racism and discrimination by identifying, discussing, and challenging unjust perspectives and practices in classical music, the arts, public media, our community, and our society.
We believe that classical music is for everyone and strive to advance accessibility and inclusivity for all people who want to engage with the classical music community. We will seek to amplify the talents and works of those artists who have always been part of classical music – including but not limited to Black, indigenous, other artists of color, and LGBTQIA+ musicians – but are historically excluded because of systemic inequality.
We explicitly and publicly affirm our identity as an arts and public media organization opposed to racism and discrimination in any form; therefore, we resolve to reflect our commitment to a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion through our policies, programs, and practices.
