A French Soirée
Program: Biscuits & Bach
Aired: Sunday, March 17, 2019 @ 7:00 am
Hosted by Rachel Stewart
This week we’ll treat ourselves to selections from the French baroque — a heavily ornamented and somewhat formal brand of music from the era.
Trio Settecento, whose members are Rachel Barton Pine (violin), John Mark Rozendaal (viola da gamba), and David Schrader (harpsichord), have recorded selections that were mostly performed for royalty back in the day, namely the court of Louis XIV, but aren’t often heard by modern audiences. And they’ve chosen to use period instruments because, as Barton Pine says, "French baroque music is highly idiomatic to the instruments for which it was written."
And Rachel will chat with Chef Harrison Booth of the Duke Mansion in Charlotte. He’s one of the chefs participating in the Symphony Guild of Charlotte’s annual Heart of the Home fundraiser benefiting the Charlotte Symphony and its youth orchestra.
