Bach spent the final decade of his life working, off and on, on his monumental The Art of the Fugue which was sparked by a challenge from scholar Johann Mattheson to publish some triple fugues that could be combined in any way. French Canadian viol consort, Les Voix humaines, performs this great collection of fugues using a family of instruments that was popular in Bach's day on their 2013 ATMA Classique label CD, Bach: The Art of the Fugue.
