Boyce: Eight Symphonies
Program: Biscuits & Bach
Aired: Sunday, June 11, 2017 @ 7:00 am
Hosted by Rachel Stewart
William Boyce was one of the most important composers of the late Baroque period in England. He rose from being a cabinetmaker’s son singing in the St. Paul Cathedral choir to holding prestigious posts such as Master of the King’s Musick and organist at the Chapel Royal. He’s best known for his eight symphonies which are his most recorded works.
This week we’ll hear a Naxos release of those symphonies performed by the Toronto-based Aradia Ensemble and their leader, Kevin Mallon. We’ll also chat with Chad Lawson, a North Carolina-based pianist and composer. He’ll tell us about his album of Bach variations as well as the interesting breakfast he ate as a child. (Let’s just say we’re glad he still has all his teeth.)
Purchase Featured CD: Mallon, Aradia Ensemble: Boyce: Eight Symphonies, Op 2
