Brook Street Band Plays Bach
Program: Biscuits & Bach
Aired: Sunday, August 22, 2021 @ 7:00 am
Hosted by Rachel Stewart
Tune in this week for some selections performed by the Brook Street Band, an ensemble that formed specifically to play Handel's music. Brook Street in London is where Handel lived most of his working life. (Coincidentally, Jimi Hendrix occupied the house next door in the 1960s.)
We'll also hear from the 2019 album "Sisters Face to Face – The Bach Legacy in Women's Hands." which features unique arrangements of music by Bach and his sons for harpsichord and fortepiano performed by The Raritan Players who are Rebecca Cypress and Yi-heng Yang. Cypress and Yang recreate the duo-keyboard performance practice of the late 18th century that was most often played by members of the same family, often women. And of course, there will be plenty of music by J.S. Bach.
