When Bach became Cantor at the St. Thomas School and Church in Leipzig in 1723, his job involved providing music for no fewer than four churches in the city. Most Sundays in the year, church services required a cantata; so, it's no coincidence Bach wrote most of his church cantatas during his first few years in Leipzig. This week we hear one composed for the 22nd Sunday after Trinity in 1724. And since it's Halloween, Tartini's "Devil's Trill" Sonata will also make an appearance.
