Making a good first impression is a vital part of establishing a relationship. This applies to making friends, to dating, and even to building professional networks, right? Well these are, of course, things that composers have to consider as well, but if you think about it, that really good first impression, or introduction, has to happen musically, as well. Hey there, I'm Loki Karuna, and on this edition of Noteworthy I'd like to introduce YOU to someone who puts a lot of thought into first impressions – composer Derrick Skye.
Derrick Skye is a Los Angeles-based composer, conductor, musician, and educator who integrates a plethora of musical practices into his works. Because of how unique his works are, Derrick sometimes writes overtures, or preludes that serve as an introduction to larger works that showcase his contemporary approach. This prelude, titled as such, highlights the integration of electronics and other contemporary aesthetics that he utilized in one of his larger scale compositions.
In addition to utilizing electronics, Derrick Skye often includes various cultural aesthetics from around the world in his music, impressing on his listeners, his dedication to bridging musical gaps and intersecting artistic practices. Derrick has proven to put his best foot forward, both socially AND musically, and is without a doubt one of today's most Noteworthy composers.
Noteworthy is a production of WDAV classical public radio.
