Musical inspiration comes in many forms. For some, it's triggered by a walk on the beach or a visit to a park. For others, musical inspiration is the result of a conversation or relationship. But often times, musical inspiration is nothing more than the whisper of an inner voice. Hello – I'm Loki Karuna, and on this edition of NoteWorthy you and I will celebrate the musical manifestations of the inner voice of Joy Guidry.
Joy is a bassoonist and musical artist whose musical approach is radical, to say the least. Their 2022 album, Radical Acceptance, explores the musical intersection of self love and the status quo of everyday harm, with THIS track from the album being the result, in Joy's words, of an "inner voice that was once a whisper screaming from my soul out through my bassoon". They titled this work, Voices of the Ancestors.
Other compositions on Joy Guidry's "Radical Acceptance" include works titled Grace, Face to Face, and Inner Child, with the album, overall, being celebrated as Best Contemporary Classical by BandCamp in February of 2022. Their inner voice speaks loudly, unapologetically, and profoundly, making them among today's most NoteWorthy music creators.
NoteWorthy is a production of WDAV classical public radio.
