The Well-tempered Clavier
Program: Biscuits & Bach
Aired: Sunday, February 7, 2021 @ 7:00 am
Hosted by Rachel Stewart
In 1720, J.S. Bach compiled a collection of preludes and fugues for keyboard. Twenty years later, he put together a second collection. Today we know them as The Well-Tempered Clavier, Books I and II. Together the books explore all 24 major and minor keys. They are considered some of the most important works in all of classical music. This week we hear the recently retired Vladimir Ashkenazy, one of the top pianists of our time, play some selections from this great opus.
And Rachel chats with Peter Reinhart, Chef on Assignment at Johnson and Wales University, about making sourdough bread, a hobby that has grown in popularity especially since people are staying home more.
