Two Baroque Men, Two Baroque Lives
Program: Biscuits & Bach
Aired: Sunday, February 21, 2021 @ 7:00 am
Hosted by Rachel Stewart
February 23rd marks the 336th birth anniversary of George Frideric Handel. Handel was only one month older than J.S. Bach, and they were born about 80 miles apart. Yet the two giants of Baroque music had very different lives and careers. While Bach never strayed far from his native region in Germany and held church jobs, Handel emigrated to London and worked for royalty. Both have left a permanent mark on music. This week we'll celebrate Handel's birth with several of his compositions.
And Rachel talks with North Carolina author Georgann Eubanks about the heritage foods that contribute to the distinctive identity of our state and her book entitled "The Month of Their Ripening: North Carolina Heritage Foods through the Year".
