Viola da Gamba
Program: Biscuits & Bach
Aired: Sunday, February 13, 2022 @ 7:00 am
Hosted by Rachel Stewart
This week we sample new recordings from early music specialists Sarah Cunningham and Richard Egarr, who explore Bach's viola da gamba compositions, and from Vladimir Ashkenazy, who recently retired from his decades long career as a pianist and conductor.
And food writer and scholar Robert Moss talks about his new book The Lost Southern Chefs: A History of Commercial Dining in the Nineteenth-Century South which explores the hidden history of chefs, restaurateurs, and caterers – Black and white, male and female – who created a thriving and sophisticated food culture that helped shape Southern cuisine and fine dining as we know it today.
