Ted Weiner
Ted Weiner is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area and a fan of the San Francisco Giants for more than sixty years. Originally trained in the theatre, Ted moved to Charlotte from New York City in October 1986 and soon became a part-time fill-in and weekend announcer at WDAV. Ted’s uncle was the Pennsylvania regional orchestra pioneer and educator, Louis Vyner, who discovered the ten year-old pianist, Andre Watts, six years before Leonard Bernstein discovered him. So, classical music has run deep in the extended Weiner family. After five years at WDAV as a paid community announcer, Ted was hired in 1991 to be Music Director and since then has scheduled the 146 hours per week of music that the WDAV announcers present.
Classical music is definitely one of Ted’s passions, but he is also a fan of baseball, films, non-fiction books, the Beatles and, in his younger days, rollercoasters. His greatest passion, however, are his two grown daughters: Bea, a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and Sophie, who received her degree in Theatre Performance from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Bea and Sophie both now reside in Brooklyn and Manhattan, respectively. Bea brings her acute artistic sense working at the Brooklyn unique gift shop, Friends NYC. Sophie works in the corporate world now as a glamorous and highly organized executive’s assistant at Netflix.
